A couple of years ago, I taught one of my Smoky Mountains fall photo workshops. I had been doing fall Smoky Mountains workshops for years and knew when fall usually happened. That year, I got there when fall was usually happened, but it wasn’t happening. It was such a strange fall that the national news covered it as the fall that never came. I thought that would probably be the strangest fall I would experience, but I think this year tops it.
It has been a weird fall. I just returned from a week in the Adirondacks of upstate NY, with impressions similar to yours. The whole area was dry and warm, even the mountain lakes didn't feel cold. Color was spotty, many of the reds looked tired and dried out, while the yellows were pretty good, and there were still plenty of leaves that haven't turned yet. Wish you good luck with your workshops, but there is always something to shot, we just have to get out there and do it!
Love the photo just above the “Leave Comment”. The combination of the falls and the variety of colors in the trees is great. Best of luck with the workshop!
Great insight Bryan! I am finding that I have to completely re-plan my fall intentions due to this year's devastating hurricane in the Southern Appalachians. Just underscores the importance on focusing on what I find in front of me!
…when I open up my eyes to the reality … I can more effectively approach what I find in front of me …
wise words Bryan.
We did North Shore from Silver Bay to Grand Marais yesterday - back down today. was awesome. 5 stars - will go back!
