I really enjoyed the photos and narrative about each one. The Smokey mountains are definitely on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing this beautiful workshop recap.
My first gig as an artist-in-residence was at this park. Six glorious weeks running the park and wearing out my equipment. We've been there repeatedly since for all the reasons you mention. Darn good post about the park and the photography possible there. No mention of Roaring Forks Road? No shooting of the elk? Oconaluftee? Chimney Top area? Cataloochee? Been to 52 wilderness parks - this is still our favorite. Excellent post, man.
Roaring Fork and many of the picnic areas weren't open. The most disappointing was the Cove Hardwood Nature Trail. They hadn't opened up the Chimney Top picnic area, yet.
We photographed elk near Oconaluftee and visited the village there. I don't use Cataloochee on my workshops due to the distance and focus of the workshops. I doesn't fit well within a schedule that tries to maximize the opportunities for participants, but I like to go there and watch not only the elk but all the elk watchers.
Very inspiring :) I wish I was physically capable to joining you there 2027. But hey, I had my time in the Sun and now it is time for me to sit in the shade. ;)
Beautiful! The Smokies are definitely a gem! I never thought of shooting a stream through the trees, but I really do like your result. I'm going to give that a try.
We just returned from the Smokies. I allay forget how beautiful they are in the spring. I’m jealous that you were there during dogwood bloom. We had a few stragglers but that all. The water, though.
Count me in for 2027

Beautiful series of photos and it sounds like the workshop went well. I leave in the morning to head to the mountains and I can't wait!

I bet that artist-in-residence was fun.

All are great shots, Bryan. I'm particularly fond of the cabin shots!
